The Future Rocks

A global marketplace for sustainable and future-forward lab-grown diamond jewelry.

The Future Rock is an Online Marketplace where consumers can buy Lab-grown diamonds from sellers globally.

My Role

I was responsible for designing the foundation for B2B platforms for Sellers and Admin to help them  upload products, manage orders & inventory.

Besides the information about MVP features, we wanted to understand how it connects with other functions and their requirement. So, we conducted interviews with stakeholders.

Stakeholder Interviews

We interviewed Merchandising, operation, marketing, finance, designers & founders to help understand how we can make the whole process of order fulfillment and any other journey involving sellers. This supported us in setting up the plan and evaluating the timeline before launch.

We also discovered that besides Order fulfillment & Inventory management there were a few features that would help sellers & each function perform efficiently. But, before reaching to defining phase we thought of defining the UX principles which acts as a guiding force for our designs.

UX Principles

These are a set of principles that we applied when we make decisions to help us manage the consistency, standard and usability of the designs.

Consistency

Align layout, components, icons & interaction across all platforms to deliver similar information with similar type of visualization

Hierarchy

Distributing Information so it is presented in stages so as to make it easier to comprehend. Presenting only the necessary amount of data at a given time.

We took the insights from our research and created sitemaps and users flows which further supported us in defining the problem.

Sitemap

The sitemap for each backend platform helped us understand the structure and navigation at a bigger scale & organize business requirements for improved functionality for both Platforms. This was further communicated with the Project manager & prioritised based on the launch deadlines.

Sitemap assisted us to align as a team and further gave us an understanding of the effort required for Design and Development. Product upload, Order Fulfillment, and Inventory management were the main features that we focussed on as they would create a smooth experience for our sellers hence improving the User experience.

User Flows

The order fulfillment process requires approval from different stakeholders. User flows helped us understand how each stakeholder may navigate on the platform and make the interaction with the platform more intuitive.

These flows gave us knowledge on how it impacts all three platforms at once. This further helped us define business logic for each page and communicate with the tech team to keep a consistent experience for our users.

All the communication with each stakeholder was documented and shared with them to be aware of the business decisions & logic to avoid any last-minute changes.

We defined scenarios for cancelation & return, product upload requirements, Email directory, notifications & lot more.

Prototypes

We regularly released new versions of prototypes to improve their functionality and provide a visualization to our stakeholders. All versions were shared with the Project manager to communicate with the tech team.

In the early stages, we didn't have any sellers onboarded and had to rely on internal stakeholders feedback to improve the platform experience.

Testing

We constantly tested each flow & scenario with the business team to further document and inform our business logics. During the testing phase, we realized that business team was not comfortable using prototypes so we gave them different business scenarios to help them focus more on the functionality.

We continued testing new versions with internal stakeholders & end users even after the launch. And started adding focus on reducing the effort for development and improving the overall service.

Component Design

We continued testing new versions with internal stakeholders & end users even after the launch. Simultaneously, we started focusing on reducing the effort for development and improving the overall service.

Journey Mapping

We were not only aiming to launch the product but also ensuring the digital experience is seamless across the platforms.

We started with a customer journey used for e-commerce and then kept on improvising based on the The Future Rocks business requirement. This assisted us in understanding how all three platforms are interconnected.

We launched the B2B and B2C in a period of 10 months. Soon after we had sellers onboarded from around the world. We also started receiving feedback from sellers to help us understand their requirements for Sellers dashboard.

Overview

This feature provided sellers insights about their product sales, cancellations & returned orders.

Performance

We found that most of the sellers we will onboard have different product categories. So this page help them compare each product within that category.

Sales Desk

This page allows sellers to complete an order fulfillment which has 4-5 statuses to help them take prompt actions before they are delivered to customers.

During this 10 months launch period I also helped conduct a moderated Usability testing for consumer facing site with US consumers on Mobile and Desktop. We continued enhancing the features based on the feedback we received for Seller and Admin platform.
